Singing

Job Description 

  • Sing a cappella or with musical accompaniment. 

  • Interpret or modify music, applying knowledge of harmony, melody, rhythm, and voice production to individualize presentations and maintain audience interest. 

  • Sing as a soloist or as a member of a vocal group. 

  • Observe choral leaders or prompters for cues or directions in vocal presentation. 

  • Perform before live audiences, or in television, radio, or movie productions.

Retro Singer

Education and Skills

Most singers require training in vocational schools and private coaching, but there are multiple aspects of singing that can require more or less training. 

Pop * Rock * Country 

Though training is always benifitial to a singer, professionals in this field range for "natural talent" to highly educated.

Musical Theater

Musical theater singers benefit most from a BFA as well as private coaching. 

Opera

This field requires the most training of all the singing careers available.  Opera singers hit notes most other singing occupations don't use at all.  Privat coaching and acquiring a degree at the best ways to procure a job in this position.

Experience

Though most singers acquire a job through an audition process, the singer with the most experience will always have a leg up.  Have performed in public at multiple venues helps show your ability to conquer stage fright, sing for an elongated time frame, and that you have the work ethic and talent to complete the job successfully.
